10 Dollar Mail Bank Cardboard Box
ca. 1955
Inside is a metal child's bank, about 6 inches high, in the form of a mailbox -- it's supposed to look like the kind of mailbox you'd see on a street corner. When you drop in enough quarters (40) to add up to ten dollars, a key that is provided will open the bank so that the child can retrieve the quarters. It's a way to encourgage children to save ten dollars -- which was a hefty sum in the 1950s!
