Aids to Thrift Pamphlet from Teachers' Provident Society
1900-1970
This 32-page pamphlet describes the advantages for British teachers of joining the Teachers' Provident Society -- a cooperative thrift organization through which teachers save together to provide one another with sick pay, pensions, life insurance, and other benefits. Sometimes such organizations in the U.K. are called "friendly societies." Many British trade unions began largely as friendly societies and in later decades many trade unions, including unions of teachers, continued in various ways to provide their members with "aids to thrift."
